After the UAW 2865 bargaining team for Academic Student Employees reached a tentative agreement with UC, the Ethnic Studies Graduate Student Alliance voted to oppose it because wages are not increasing significantly.

Three trends are causing a dramatic rise in student borrowing, reports the Pew Research Center’s Social & Demographic Trends project: “More college students are borrowing. College students are borrowing more.” And “More college students are attending private for-profit schools....” 

UC faculty are being invited to a half-day "counter-conference" on January 8 to discuss how to make higher education more just during the annual Modern Language Association conference in Los Angeles. Among the topics to be considered are "the corporatization of the university, the possibilities of unionization, direct social action, and the use and abuse of graduate students." RSVPs are being collected by Bob Samuels, president of UC-AFT.
