How the CEO of UCLA’s public hospital system was given “‛incentive’ bonuses totaling $2.6 million” during a time of tuition increases, staff layoffs, and poverty wages is explained in Thursday’s LA Weekly. UCB Emeritus Professor Charles Schwartz has analyzed new data that "not only extends the time frame over which we can see enormous growth in management positions but also lets us identify the main sources of funds paying for this estimated $1 billion per year in apparent waste." This news won’t stop UC President Mark Yudof from lobbying California legislators to protect the university’s budget. UC-AFT president Bob Samuels presents four tax solutions that would enable California to balance its budget without drastically cutting essential services.
