Today, April 4, is a National Day of Action to support unions and collective bargaining. You can find your local UPTE demonstration here, and a list of other labor events in your area here. Please come out and make your voice heard, and post this flyer in your workplace. The date has great historical significance. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, where he was standing with sanitation workers demanding their dream of a better life. Workers' rights are under attack as never before, and today’s actions are just the beginning of a nationwide labor fightback.

UCB Emeritus Professor Charles Schwartz has analyzed new data that "not only extends the time frame over which we can see enormous growth in management positions but also lets us identify the main sources of funds paying for this estimated $1 billion per year in apparent waste."

This news won’t stop UC President Mark Yudof from lobbying California legislators to protect the university’s budget.
